Topaz Elementary - Placentia Yorba Linda Unified School District 2011-2012
Home of the TIGERS
Students, parents, teachers, and administration were delighted to receive California Distinguished School Honors in May of 2010.
Principal Rafael Plascencia praised the hard work of the Topaz community and credited the award to the many dedicated educational professional.
Keep up the great work Tigers!
When students miss school, they miss important instruction. In addition, when students are absent, the PYLUSD does not receive State funding for that day—regardless of whether the absence is excused or unexcused. Simply by increasing school attendance by 1%, the PYLUSD would receive more than $1 million.
This amount would make a huge difference in saving student programs and services
during the State’s fiscal crisis.

Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Superintendent Dennis Smith announces his plans to retire at the end of this school year.
An educator for 38 years, Smith concludes 12 years as Superintendent of the award-winning, 26,000-student Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District.
Dr. Smith’s achievements include dramatically raising the level of technology in PYLUSD schools; leading the effort to build new schools and renovate existing ones; and, most importantly, raising the level of academic achievement of an already high-performing school district.
Dr. Smith will be missed and we wish him the very best in his retirement!
